As scrumpcious enters its 27th year,
we find ourselves looking back on how we have been making clothes over the past few years.

We had gradually come to spend more and more of our time making clothes before knowing who they would belong to, and then working hard to find their way into someone’s hands.

We wanted to make sure that the pieces people loved would always be available.
But that meant making more than was actually needed, and little by little, more of our energy began to go into “selling.”

There were more days when we felt caught up in everything surrounding the making, rather than in the making itself.

As we have grown older, we also began to feel that something important was being pushed aside.

And over the past few years, that feeling stayed with us.

So we thought —
well, then, we’d better clear the clouds ourselves!

After many conversations between the two of us,
we arrived at a very simple answer.

From now on, we will make only what is needed.

We want to return to making each piece as if we were drawing —
one by one, with our own hands and thoughts —
and if something we make finds its way to someone who truly loves it,
there could be nothing better.

With the help of the workshops and seamstresses who have stood alongside us for many years,
we will now make our clothes mainly to order.

Rather than making many pieces first and then searching for where they might belong,
we will make them for the people who are waiting for them.

In a way, we are simply returning to where we began.

Making only what is needed also means that we expect to be able to offer our clothes at more considered prices than before.

We hope to keep making clothes that can stay with you for many years —
pieces that, with time, become something like a trusted companion.

And we hope to keep sending these “fuku” out into the world,
one by one.

Thank you, as always, for being with us.
